Winter Ecology Station

What happens to the animals and plants in the Spring Mountains in the winter? Join an educator at the Foxtail picnic area to discover the adaptations that help animals survive in the winter month.

This is a stationary lesson that will take place at the following times:
10 am to 1030 am
11 am to 1130 am
Noon to 1230 pm


Junior Snow Ranger Program

As the days get shorter and temperatures drop, animals in the Spring Mountains are getting ready for winter. Join an educator at the Foxtail picnic area to learn how the animals of the Spring Mountains prepare for winter and how you can be prepared for winter as well. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start of the program. This program will take us around the Foxtail picnic area. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking clothes and dress in layers. Temperatures in the Spring Mountains can be 20-30 degrees cooler than the Las Vegas valley. Please bring 1 liter of water per person.

Foxtail Location Information

A $25 entrance fee is required per vehicle to access the Foxtail picnic area. Parking is limited. First come, first serve.

This program is for visitors of all ages.
Young participants will have a chance to earn their Spring Mountains Junior Snow Ranger patch.
4th-grade participants will get a free Every Kid Outdoors pass which offers access to many of America’s public lands.
